MICHAEL VICK
Quarterback, Virginia Tech
Vick better hope this was his one bad game because despite the No. 3 Hokies’ 35-13 victory over Temple, the sophomore looked ordinary. He rushed for 55 yards in 18 carries, passed for 162, but had three turnovers.
Season: 59 carries, 484 yards, 8 TDs; 45 of 89 passing, 635 yards, 4 TDs
Next: West Virginia, Thursday
LADAINIAN TOMLINSON
Running Back, TCU
Is this where the Heisman push begins? Tomlinson had a breakout game with 294 yards in a career-high 49 carries in TCU’s 41-21 win over Hawaii. He had 196 yards in 30 carries by halftime.
Season: 119 carries, 680 yards, 8 TDs
Next: at Tulsa, Oct. 21
CHRIS WEINKE
Quarterback, Florida State
Weinke gets brownie points leading a Seminole comeback, but not the 27-24 loss to Miami surely hurts. Still, Weinke had a career day, completing 28 of 59 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns.
Season: 126 of 213, 1,974 yards, 16 TDs
Next: Duke, Saturday
DREW BREES
Quarterback, Purdue
The Boilermakers are showing they are more than a one-man team, but how will Heisman voters react? In Purdue’s 32-31 victory over No. 6 Michigan, Brees completed 32 of 44 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns.
Season: 158 of 252, 1,930 yards, 12 TDs
Next: at Northwestern, Saturday
