Surprise Goal Lifts The Master’s, 1-0

C.J. Van Wingerden scored in the sixth minute of overtime for The Master’s College in a 1-0 men’s soccer victory over Westminster on Saturday at National American University in Rapid City, S.D.
Van Wingerden, a reserve senior fullback who was in the game because of injuries to other players, got the first goal of his career.
He scored on a 24-yard shot after dribbling past a defender.
Cal Lutheran 2, Redlands 0--Oskar Kantoft scored in the 32nd minute and the 67th minute for the Kingsmen in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.
Josh Brotherton made six saves in 71 minutes and Matt Jordan had one save in the final 19 minutes for Cal Lutheran (9-3, 6-1).
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 7, El Camino 5--Julie Olson scored three goals for Valley in the third-place game of the Ventura tournament at Ventura College.
Olson has 47 goals this season.
Goalie Debra Hoch made seven saves.
Valley (9-5-1) won a pool-play game earlier in the day, beating West Valley, 10-6.
MEN’S WATER POLO
UC San Diego 8, Pepperdine 3--Sean Hylton, Greg Lonzo and Michael Haussman scored for the seventh-ranked Waves (5-3) in a nonconference loss at UC San Diego (14-3).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
CS Northridge def. Weber State, 15-11, 16-14, 6-15, 15-6--Laura Szymanski had 23 kills and 15 digs, Alexis Cormier had 21 kills and 20 digs, and Jennifer McNees had 20 kills and 11 digs for the Matadors (10-4, 5-3) in a Big Sky Conference victory at Weber State.
Canyons def. Santa Ana, 15-2, 15-11, 15-5--Gina Casillas had seven kills and Anna Kariala had 17 digs for the Cougars in the Canyons quadrangular tournament at Canyons.
Kelli Stien had 27 assists and Sharon Foster three aces for Canyons (7-5).
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Royal 12, Marina 7--Ramiro Saldain had eight goals for the Highlanders in a nonleague victory at Royal.
Tom Onyshko had 12 saves for Royal (15-3).
