Architecture and Utility Lines

* Re “Valley Libraries Branching Out in Building Boom,” Oct. 2.
Your photo of the new Studio City library really captured its sweeping form and unique look. But a slightly wider shot would have caught the ugly maze of utility lines that box in that beautiful building on both the Moorpark [Street] and Whitsett [Avenue] sides. Will our city ever do something about undergrounding existing utility lines, especially when they mar the visual enjoyment of such terrific public facilities? Los Angeles is a city of many architectural wonders. But all too often they are hidden behind utility lines. Can’t our city do better?
