Good in Concept, Poor in Execution

Re: “Builders Home In on Coveted Coast” (Oct. 1):
Your fine article on the spoiling of the coast ended with Laer Pearce (Coalition for Habitat Conservation) saying he didn’t see any “government entity stepping up” [to buy the land at market value]. As Pearce knows very well, that is exactly what we did in the case of Crystal Cove. The taxpayers bought the land from the Irvine Co. to preserve it for all of the people for all time. Now, in an example of ultimate hubris, the Parks Department wants to lease it for 60 years for a $500 per night upscale luxury resort.
Is it any wonder that our citizens lose confidence in public officials?
