A 25-year hiatus as head football coach at Santa Clara apparently hasn’t diminished Lou Cvijanovich’s enthusiasm for the sport.
Cvijanovich, 74, who coached the Saints in football from 1958-75 and guided them to two Southern Section titles, took over the team last week.
“I talked to him the other day and he sounded 20 years younger,” said Coach Jim Bauer of Littlerock, a former Cvijanovich assistant. “To hear him bubbling about blocking and tackling and going out to practice, that’s a true coach. The man is a legend.”

Lancaster began a three-game stretch of homecoming games Friday night at Barstow.
“We’re starting our homecoming month,” Coach Troy Jackson said. “At least we’ll have longer halftimes.”
Next week, the Eagles (2-2) open Golden League play at Antelope Valley and host Palmdale the following week.
