A 27-year-old North Hollywood resident was killed early Thursday when his truck went off the Hollywood Freeway and crashed into a utility pole on Magnolia Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Vincent Michael Lizarr was driving south on the freeway at 3:05 a.m. when his Chevrolet pickup struck a guardrail and traveled down an embankment.
The truck flipped over and slid across Magnolia, but eventually righted itself and hit a power pole, according to CHP Officer Shirley Gaines.
Lizarr was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. The CHP said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident disrupted an electrical circuit, causing a temporary power outage for 770 homes and businesses in the area, Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Lisa Tashiro said. DWP workers were able to restore power by 4:30 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation, Gaines said.
