The parents of the two children who died last year when a man intentionally drove his car into a Costa Mesa preschool playground are holding a fund-raiser this weekend to make other playgrounds safer.
The nonprofit Sierra’s Light Foundation, founded by Cindy Soto in August 1999, will hold its first bowl-a-thon Saturday. The event will also feature a silent auction and raffle.
Cindy Soto’s 4-year-old daughter, Sierra, and Pam Wiener’s 3-year-old son, Brandon, died in the crash.
Wiener said the event will be her first project for Sierra’s Light. “Working on projects like this has helped me get through a very difficult time in my life,” she said.
Proceeds will help day-care centers that do not have the means to make their campuses safer, said Wiener, who is serving as event chairwoman.
The bowl-a-thon will begin at noon Saturday at Kona Lanes Bowling Center, 2699 Harbor Blvd. Information: (949) 251-9777.
