Fifth-Ranked Los Alamitos Upset by Edison in Tennis

Sophomores Jessica Boyer and Chase Rea swept in doubles to help Edison upset fifth-ranked Los Alamitos, 10-8, in a Sunset League girls’ tennis match Tuesday at Los Alamitos.
Boyer and Rea won their sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3, giving the Chargers (6-1, 2-0) a 6-3 advantage in doubles. Olivia Thanawiwat won two of her three singles matches to pace Edison.
Los Alamitos fell to 5-1, 1-1.
In another Sunset League match:
Huntington Beach 11, Fountain Valley 7--Sophomore twins Kristin and Tiffany Salaya swept, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles for Huntington Beach (1-1 in league).
In the Century League:
Santa Ana Valley 12, Orange 6--Chong Xiong swept, 6-2, 6-4, 7-5 and Phi Luong swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, in singles for visiting Santa Ana Valley (5-4, 1-1).
In the Freeway League:
No. 3 Troy 13, No. 10 Sunny Hills 5--The No. 1 doubles team of Stacey Lee and Veronica Fermin paced the visiting Warriors (6-2, 2-0). Sunny Hills is 6-2, 1-1.
In the Pacific Coast League:
No. 1 Corona del Mar 17, Northwood 1--Sophomore Anne Yelsey didn’t lose a game for host Corona del Mar (7-1, 2-0).
No. 7 University 16, Costa Mesa 2--Junior Megan Biorkman got the Trojan (7-3, 1-0) singles off to a good start with her sweep. University didn’t lose a singles match.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 17, San Clemente 1--Sophomore Lauren Jones lost just two games while sweeping, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles for Capistrano Valley (6-4, 1-0).
In Sunset League field hockey:
Edison 1, Santa Ana 1--Mary Frausto tied the game with less than a minute remaining for the visiting Oilers (4-1-3 in league). Cynthia Ruvalcaba scored for Santa Ana (7-6-4, 2-3-2.)
In Empire League girls’ golf:
El Dorado 108, Kennedy 110--Stella Min shot a four-over 33 for El Dorado (7-2, 2-0) at Birch Hills. Kennedy fell to 6-3, 2-1.
In the Ocean League:
Ocean View 131, Santa Monica 147--Nicole Peralta had two birdies in her round of five-over 39 for Ocean View at Penmar. Peralta has been medalist in five of the six matches for the Seahawks (5-1, 2-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
No. 1 University 115, Laguna Beach 168--Junior medalist Angela Won had five birdies and was four-under-par before double-bogeying the final hole at Strawberry Farms. She finished at 34 and Sunny Lee had 39 for the top-ranked Trojans (8-0, 3-0). Laguna Beach is 0-5, 0-3.
In the Sunset League:
No. 9 Los Alamitos 104, Fountain Valley 107--Medalist Jamie Oliver made three birdies and six pars to pace the visiting Griffins (7-1, 3-0) at David L. Baker. Sophomore Minnie Choi shot par 31 for Fountain Valley (5-2, 1-2).
Marina 143, Edison 146--Junior Lisa Sweller made four birdies and finished with a low 41 for the Vikings (5-1, 2-1) at Mile Square Park. Edison is 4-4, 1-2.
In a nonleague match:
No. 3 Santa Margarita 118, Palm Desert 132--Medalist Megan Mulhaupt shot par 36 and Alexis Etou added a 39 for the visiting Eagles (8-1) at Desert Willow Golf Course. Palm Desert is 5-1.
In nonleague boys’ water polo:
No. 10 University 21, Katella 10--Peter Fyfe scored seven goals, had four assists and two steals for host University (9-6).
No. 2 Villa Park 16, Mission Viejo 4--Charlie Fisher scored eight goals for host Villa Park (12-2), which scored nine times in the fourth quarter. Jared Jones had five saves for the Spartans.
