Tyler Ebell, who is listed at 5-foot-9, answered several questions about his toughness Friday.
The Ventura High senior carried 44 times for 393 yards and six touchdowns in a 41-28 victory over Arroyo Grande, a school known for its hard-hitting defense.
“This is really a mark of authenticity, when [college coaches] see him against a team like that,” Coach Phil McCune said. “People wondered about his durability. Forty-four carries against a good defense, that’s pretty good stuff.”
Ebell has rushed for 1,406 yards and 19 touchdowns in 103 carries.
The Cougars (4-0), ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division IV, play Oxnard on Friday and begin Channel League play against Buena on Oct. 13.
