Karpovtsev Traded to Blackhawks

The Toronto Maple Leafs traded restricted free agent Alexander Karpovtsev to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday in exchange for defenseman Bryan McCabe.
The Blackhawks also received a fourth-round draft pick.
Karpovtsev sat out training camp after contract talks with the Maple Leafs reached an impasse during the summer.

Defenseman Eric Cairns of the New York Islanders will be sidelined for four weeks because of a broken left thumb. He suffered the injury in Sunday’s 2-1 exhibition loss to the New York Rangers. . . . Right wing Todd Harvey signed with the San Jose Sharks, leaving team captain and leading scorer Owen Nolan as the Sharks’ only unsigned free agent. Terms of Harvey’s deal were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a two-year deal. He was seeking a three-year pact.
