Council members and city officials will hold a study session to discuss whether the city should purchase a Humvee for the Police Department’s DARE program.
The session will take place at 5 p.m. today in the City Hall Community Meeting Room, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
Officials from the program say their DARE vehicle, a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice, needs to be replaced. Officer Ken Alexander polled students to determine their preference, and the majority requested a Humvee, which costs more than $45,000.
However, Placentia resident Joe Komaroni, who bought two of the vehicles at an auction, will sell the city one for $17,000 plus tax and license. City officials would spend an additional $13,000 to refurbish the vehicle.
