Position on Oxnard Airport

* Re “Airport Is an Asset,” Ventura County editorial, Sept. 10.
Suffice it to say that The Times is an unabashed supporter of keeping Oxnard Airport open despite concerns of local residents and the Oxnard Elementary School District. If memory serves me correctly, earlier this year The Times took a strong position against construction of the proposed Juan Lagunas Soria Elementary School at the Emerson Road site based on the potential exposure of students to pesticides from an adjoining agricultural land use.
As I understand it, the only reason the Oxnard school district is considering the Emerson Road site is because acceptable alternative sites do not exist as a result of the Oxnard Airport’s operations, which remove numerous alternative sites from consideration.
It strikes me that The Times’ editorial positions on these two issues are simply inconsistent. Frankly, The Times does a disservice to our community by bringing such a disjointed perspective to its editorial pages without offering any reasonable solutions.
