Russia Says Spy for Lithuania and U.S. Being Held

MOSCOW — Russian security agents have detained a Lithuanian man accused of spying for the United States and Lithuania, officials said Monday.
Russia’s Federal Security Service, or FSB, said the man had confessed that he was an agent of the Lithuanian intelligence service and that he was enlisted last year by the CIA to spy on the FSB’s computer and information safety department.
The suspect also allegedly testified that during preparations this spring for President Clinton’s visit to Russia, he was to bring an FSB representative to Poland and try to recruit him. The plan was foiled by Russian counterintelligence, the FSB said in a statement.
ORT public television said the man was a 24-year-old Lithuanian of Russian origin.
