An 8-year-old boy nearly drowned at a pool party in Studio City on Friday afternoon, before being pulled from the bottom of a swimming pool by a classmate, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.
The boy was found near the bottom of the 10-foot pool about 1:20 p.m. in the 13100 block of Valley Vista Boulevard. The boys’ friends, students at Dixie Canyon Avenue Elementary School in Sherman Oaks, were playing when one noticed the boy motionless in the pool.
“The victim was known as a jokester, so the kids thought he was messing around,” LAFD spokesman Bob Collis said.
But when pulled from the water, he wasn’t breathing, Collis said. While anxious parents and youngsters waited for paramedics, a dispatcher coached the group through first aid methods, he said.
The boy was rushed to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where he was listed in good condition and expected to recover, authorities said.
