Politics and Estefan

Gloria Estefan says she had no agenda when she visited the Elian Gonzalez household (“On and Off the Island,” by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, June 14). Oh, puuuuh-leeeeez! Having had a father who was the personal bodyguard of the wife of U.S. puppet dictator Fulgencio Batista definitely gives her a reason to meddle in U.S.-Cuban affairs.
Estefan and the rest of her Cuban celebrity cronies should do us a favor and stop interfering with U.S. policy toward Cuba, especially in what the rest of America considers their out-of-touch decree. If Gloria and Co. really wish to help the people in Cuba, she should promote the lifting of the economic embargo so that Cubans on the island may benefit from the obvious economic windfall.
