WATER POLO
UCLA two-meter defender Robin Beauregard, formerly of Marina High, will miss at least three weeks from the U.S. national women’s team, including the Holiday Cup in Los Alamitos July 4-9, with a dislocated left kneecap.
The injury happened at a pre-Olympic event in Australia June 17, when Beauregard slipped and fell on a pool deck, she said.
BASKETBALL
Dave Taylor, an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Mater Dei the last 18 years, has retired, the school announced.
Taylor joined Mater Dei in 1982 with head coach Gary McKnight.
“He’s the guy who lays out the battle plan,” McKnight said.
SOFTBALL
Rick Buonarigo will leave his position as Orange Coast College’s softball coach.
Interested coaches should contact Jane Hilgendorf at (714) 432-5766.
* Bud Clark has been named softball coach at Santa Margarita High. He was an assistant at Concordia the last two seasons.
He replaces Ken Delp, who resigned.
* Lisa Castillo has been named softball coach at Cypress High.
Castillo was an assistant for three seasons under Heather Illsley, who resigned because she sought a break from coaching.
Cypress was 14-12 last season and shared the Empire League title with Kennedy.
