Dad Denied Jet Seat to See Dying Girl

An Alaska man was denied a seat on an overbooked Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle that would have allowed him to see his badly burned 3-year-old daughter before she died, the carrier said. Alaska agents asked in vain for volunteers to give up their seats, forcing the man and his parents to wait for the next flight out of Ketchikan, which arrived in Seattle too late. An Alaska spokesman said the airline has the right to remove passengers from a plane to make room in such an emergency and would certainly do so in the future.
