Man Is Accused of Biting an Ear Off

A Garden Grove man suspected of biting off another man’s ear after a barroom brawl last month was arrested Wednesday, Garden Grove police said.
Lt. John Woods said Diego Barriga, 51, and the victim, Valentin Gonzalez, 53, of Santa Ana, were acquaintances. They were at the Humdinger 4 bar on Harbor Boulevard on May 21 when they began to argue, Woods said. The fight continued outside, which is when Gonzalez’s ear was bitten off, Woods said.
The ear was found in the parking lot and was surgically reattached, Woods said.
Barriga, who faces charges of mayhem, is being held on $50,000 bail at the Orange County Jail.
