Group Forms to Advocate Extension of Freeway

PASADENA — A number of residents and leaders who support the extension of the Long Beach Freeway have announced they are forming a group to advocate their position on an upcoming ballot.
The Pasadena City Council has long supported the controversial project. But in April, it reversed its position--then deadlocked on whether to let voters to have the final say by putting the matter on the ballot.
If the council continues to be deadlocked and fails to produce a ballot measure, the new group--710 Freeway NOW--will push one on the March ballot, said Nat Read, one of the group’s founders.
The extension would complete the final leg of the Long Beach Freeway, closing a 6.2-mile gap between the Foothill and San Bernardino freeways.
