The City Council approved funding for improvements to the municipal golf course, including a new clubhouse, at Tuesday’s budget workshop.
The council’s action came over the protests of golfers who oppose a greens fee increase that is part of the package.
The council agreed to partially fund the $3-million clubhouse with a $1.25-million transfer from the general fund and an in-house loan for the rest.
The additional course improvements and operation costs will be funded with the help of a $2 increase in weekday rates and $3 in weekend rates. The increases apply to all rates except those for juniors.
The planned improvements include an expansion to a two-tier driving range, 37 additional parking spots and rebuilt sand traps.
The council was expected to approve the final budget at Wednesday night’s regular meeting.
