ABC Drops Out of Network Camera Pool Coverage

NEW YORK — ABC News has pulled out of a pool arrangement in which three networks had shared camera coverage of Vice President Al Gore and Texas Gov. George W. Bush, citing cost concerns.
The network, whose executives outlined political plans at a news conference Tuesday, said the withdrawal did not indicate the commitment to follow the campaign had lessened.
ABC had joined with CBS and Fox News to share camera coverage of the campaign. But with interest in the candidates at an ebb now, ABC found it was not worth the expense, spokeswoman Su-Lin Nichols said.
