Foreman’s Daughter Wins by Knockout

LAS VEGAS — Freeda Foreman floored her opponent with the first punch she landed, then knocked her out at 1:44 of the second round in her boxing debut Sunday.

Former heavyweight champion George Foreman refused to attend the bout. He did not want his daughter to begin a boxing career, and offered her $15,000--the same amount as the purse for her first bout--not to go into the ring against LaQuanda Landers.

In another debut by the daughter of a former heavyweight champion, Maria Johansson of Sweden fought bravely but was battered in a split decision loss to Karrie Frye, of LaPorte, Ind., in their super-middleweight bout.

Johansson, whose father is Ingemar Johansson, dropped to her knees when Frye nailed her with an overhead right in the second round. But Johansson, a 34-year-old mother of two, regained her feet and was competitive the rest of the four-round bout.
