Police in India announced the arrest of 11 people suspected of taking part in the massacre of 34 people in a low-caste village in Bihar, one of India’s most impoverished states. Police raided several hide-outs belonging to the banned Ranvir Sena militia, the Press Trust of India news agency quoted Inspector-General of Police Neelmani as saying (Neelmani uses only one name). The Ranvir Sena militia, which is financed by upper-caste landlords, took responsibility for the Saturday attack in which black-garbed gunmen stormed Miapur and killed 34 people. The militia said the attack was revenge for the recent massacre of 12 upper-caste landlords.
