Parks and Recreation commissioners have recommended that the historic railroad cars at the corner of Imperial Highway and Eureka Avenue not be moved to a park.
Commissioners said the boxcar, caboose and mail cars would be isolated if taken to a park, said Parks and Recreation Director Steve Rudometkin. He said the commission has recommended that the boxcar and mail cars be placed in the vacant area by Polly’s Pies on Lemon Drive.
The railroad cars must be moved by the end of July to make way for the widening of Imperial Highway. Rudometkin said the caboose will have to be moved at least once before Old Towne improvements can be made so it can be moved to a permanent location there.
The proposal will go before the Planning Commission at its June 28 meeting and is expected to get council approval July 20.
