Simi Valley Man Hurt When Car Rear-Ends Truck

A 49-year-old Simi Valley man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when his small compact car rear-ended a tractor-trailer truck on the Ronald Reagan Freeway just east of the Ventura County line, authorities reported.

Samuel Allison was taken to Simi Valley Hospital where he was admitted with head injuries and cuts to his face and body. A nursing supervisor said he was in serious but stable condition Wednesday night.

According to authorities, the crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. on the freeway’s westbound lanes just east of Rocky Peak Road in Los Angeles County.

Ventura County firefighters stationed near the county line used extraction tools to free Allison from his crumpled car. The truck driver was not injured.

The cause of the accident was under investigation, but authorities believe it occurred when drivers slowed to look at a small brush fire that had started about the same time on the north side of the freeway, just east of the crash site.

California Highway Patrol officials said the wreckage blocked two of the freeway’s four lanes for more than 30 minutes, causing a mile-long backup.
