Trippy 8479 A.D. Grooves to Funky Dance Beat

Tripped into the trippiest scene recently, with Space Age playboys and multi-culti hotties aplenty. At the urging of my li’l sis, we bopped into 8479 A.D., a new jazzy-disco and way tubular dance club at the Noura Cafe (8479 Melrose Ave., Hollywood). By the looks of things, Silver Lake art hounds hopped on a magic school bus and landed in Hollywood for the night. I haven’t seen so many funky, freaky folk grooving on the same interplanetary wavelength since ecstasy was legal. Promoted by Emperor Norton Records and Fourth Density, the monthly shindig blasts off the fourth Tuesday of each month.
The Noura Cafe is a groovy Middle Eastern spot, with sparkly mirrors, loads of color and plenty of nooks and crannies to suit one’s fanny. Now, if I can just find me a star-spangled Afro wig before June 27, when 8479 A.D. lands again. . . . Big week for designer Ricki Kline, who just completed Club 7969’s new face-lift and Hugo’s in the Valley.
Club 7969 celebrated its glamification with a private party and performance by the Toledo Show on June 8, but we won’t know what the place really looks like until it’s filled with the usual suspects--strippers, goths and gays. That should be nigh around 11 tonight, when Vibrator reopens. . . . On July 14, Chocolate Bar promoter Kjell launches a jazzy fantazzy Friday at the Atlas Supper Club called Off Blue, featuring singer Lesa Carlson and DJ Jun, who plan to fuse old-school jazz with funkilicious turntablism.
