* Re “Suspect Freed 3 Weeks Before Slaying of Parks’ Relative,” June 10: The LAPD is forced to release a suspected gangbanger who is awaiting trial on six counts of murder, Samuel Shabazz, because the district attorney’s office is unable to proceed with the case against him when the witnesses can’t be found. This previously convicted criminal then allegedly murders the granddaughter of Police Chief Bernard Parks in a hail of gang-related gunfire three weeks later.
