The City Council has rejected a committee’s recommendations to amend the City Charter for infrastructure needs.
The committee, which is comprised of residents, urged that an initiative to establish an infrastructure fund and a citizens committee to oversee it be placed on the November ballot. The initiative would also mandate that the city spend 15% of its general fund on infrastructure annually.
The panel’s $1.3-billon infrastructure plan calls for maintenance and improvements in areas such as streets, sewers, flood control channels, parks, open space and buildings. A final report will be presented to the council in July.
