* Re “Cal State to Favor Local Applicants,” June 7:
It is a tragedy that our state schools have to consider turning students away if they are not from the local area. Different CSUs have different programs; they are not one-size-fits-all schools, and it would be a crime to turn people away from their first choice of university.
We live in a state with the sixth-largest economy in the world and yet we cannot afford to put our children through college. In the last 15 years we have built approximately 16 prisons and one university campus. Perhaps we should stop locking kids up and start educating them.
