From Times Wire Reports
At least 57 people, mostly tourists, were injured when two cogwheel trains collided on Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. Five of the injured were in critical condition, including one train driver, officials said. The trains were going about 25 mph toward each other on a single track when they collided at the entrance to a tunnel outside Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the southern state of Bavaria, police said. An official of the train operator said human error by the traffic controller or one of the engineers probably was to blame.
