Robin Beauregard, from Marina High and UCLA, scored once for the U.S. women’s team in a 14-8 exhibition loss to Australia Friday in Sydney. The U.S. will continue to train in Australia before returning June 18 to prepare for the Holiday Cup July 4-9 in Los Alamitos.
BASEBALL
Beau Kemp, a freshman at Saddleback College, was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 31st round of the Major League Baseball draft.
Kemp, a graduate of Nathan Hale High in Tulsa, Okla., was 7-5 with two saves and a 1.82 earned-run average in 84 innings for the Gauchos this past season. The right-hander led Saddleback with five complete games, struck out 82 batters and walked 28.
SOFTBALL
Jennifer Stafford of Tucson, Ariz., signed to play softball for Vanguard next season. Stafford, a catcher, hit .422 last season for Palo Verde Christian High and made the all-region team.
