* Congratulations to Michael Ramirez on his courageous cartoon depicting Elian Gonzalez walking the gangplank (Commentary, June 4), rather than face the behemoth, duplicitous, repulsive Atty. Gen. Janet Reno and her “sword.” The specter of that would drive me off the gangplank too.
Granted, it goes against public sentiment, especially here in truly undereducated California. Have these self-immersed people truly forgotten Nazi Germany--and the knocks on doors? They’re coming.

Ramirez may foolishly believe that the Justice Department is in fact making Elian walk the plank. However, what is deliberately omitted in his offensive cartoon is the boy’s father on a boat waiting with open arms to take him home to his family and friends.
