ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Michelle Sanford
Woodbridge, Track and Field
Maybe since she is only a freshman, Sanford didn’t know any better. Instead of tightening up in the biggest meet of the year, she delivered in the clutch to win the state long jump title. . Sanford’s mark of 19 feet 7 1/4 inches, on her final attempt, pushed her past Shanita Bryant of Concord Ygnacio Valley, who posted a mark of 19-4. Sanford was the first state title winner from Orange County since Foothill’s Tara Oettinger won in 1994.
