The city is joining forces with a developer to fight an initiative intended to halt residential development until Avenida la Pata can be extended to Ortega Highway.
City Manager Michael W. Parness announced that city attorneys had reached an agreement with the lawyers for USA Properties Inc. to legally join their separate lawsuits in an effort to have the initiative declared invalid by the courts.
The initiative seeks to stop development in the city until an extension of Avenida la Pata can be built, from where it ends at Avenida Pico to the Ortega Highway and Antonio Parkway intersection in an unincorporated area east of San Juan Capistrano.
