An “impatient” gunman shot a Mission Viejo 7-Eleven clerk in the leg late Friday during a robbery, police said.
The gunman, who wore a dark long-sleeve shirt, a ski mask and a blue and white bandanna, took an undisclosed amount of money shortly before midnight, Sheriff Lt. Rich Paddock said.
The unnamed 54-year-old clerk was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center and released Saturday, Paddock said.
The robbery and shooting occurred in the 23000 block of Los Alisos Boulevard in Mission Viejo. Video surveillance shows that the clerk and the gunman argued, the sergeant said, and the clerk delayed giving the man the money.
“We assume the suspect became impatient,” Paddock said. The gunman shot the clerk in the left leg, said Paddock.
Police describe the gunman as Caucasian, about 6 feet tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds.
