HELSINKI, Finland — The Mighty Ducks’ Teemu Selanne was fined $40,200 Friday for crashing his car last summer while practicing for a rally race and injuring the president of Finland’s hockey federation.
The penalty is thought to be a record for a traffic offense in Finland, where the amount of the fine is determined by the offender’s monthly earnings.
Selanne, who was tried in absentia, said he earns $121,000 a month.
Selanne’s lawyer, Erkki Viita, said no decision has been made on an appeal.
