EAST LOS ANGELES — Residents looking to make a dash to the county library, East Los Angeles College, or the Commerce Shopping Center without getting into their cars can take advantage of a full day of free shuttle bus rides today.
The three-route service, covering 127 stops, marks a daylong celebration at the East Los Angeles Civic Center for the new East Los Angeles Shuttle Service, scheduled to begin Monday.
The service will employ three shuttle buses Monday through Saturday in East Los Angeles. The service will be provided under a $2.8-million contract with Operation Shuttle Inc. and be overseen by the county Public Works Department.
The buses, able to carry 20 passengers, will link with other public transit services, such as Metrolink buses, the Los Angeles DASH commuter bus service and the County-USC Hospital shuttle.
Rides will cost 25 cents; children younger than 5, seniors and disabled passengers will ride for free.
