MRT Technology to Open Plant in Ontario

MRT Technology, a maker of compact discs and digital video discs, plans to open a 300,000-square-foot plant in Ontario, where it will employ 300 people, Southern California Edison said. Southern California Edison, a unit of Rosemead-based Edison International, said it helped assemble a package of tax credits, electricity discounts and training and hiring assistance to bring MRT to Ontario. MRT had planned to build a new plant in Mexico. MRT, a partner of Taiwan’s Ritek Corp., already operates a facility in the city of Industry, where it employs about 200 people. The company provides CD duplication services for Internet service providers, software companies and others. The new MRT plant is expected to begin operation in July. Some of the plant’s employees could come from the pool of 3,100 U.S. Census workers already trained in high-technology jobs, who would join MRT after their temporary jobs end, Edison said.
