Eleven residents have applied to be chairman of the library’s board of trustees, one of the Newport Beach’s most coveted high-profile volunteer titles.
The post is currently filled by Coast Magazine Publisher Jim Wood, whose term expires at the end of June. Wood is seeking reappointment.
The City Council hopes to have the new trustee in place by July 1. Councilmen Tom Thomson, Tod W. Ridgeway and Gary Adams will narrow down the applicants and make their nominations at the June 13 council meeting.
The five-member group of trustees works with the Library Foundation, which raises money for the institution. The trustees decide how the money will be distributed, in terms of programs, books and classes.
