The government can outlaw parachute jumping from cliffs in national parks, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled last week. The ruling upheld the 1997 convictions of a dozen enthusiasts who jumped near Lake Powell in Arizona’s Glen Canyon Recreation Area. It came just months after a California woman plunged to her death in Yosemite National Park after her chute failed to open while she was protesting the government’s jump ban.
