IRVINE — A 14-year-old Irvine teenager was in critical condition late Friday after falling off his skateboard while being pulled by another teenager who was riding a bicycle, authorities said.
Irvine police said the boy, whose name was not released, lost control of his skateboard and tumbled head first as he held on to the shoulder of his 15-year-old friend.
The teenager underwent surgery at Santa Ana’s Western Medical Center.
According to Irvine Traffic Sgt. Denney Jenner, the boy was not wearing a helmet.
“We just want to get the word out about how important it is to wear a helmet,” Jenner said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re on a bicycle or a skateboard.”
The accident happened about noon at Dewey and Farragut avenues. The teenager on the bicycle was not hurt.
