Sheriff’s Annual Block Party Today

In an effort to heighten awareness of drug prevention and safety measures and generate support for anti-crime programs, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Station in Camarillo will hold its fourth annual Night Out Block Party today.
The event, from 5 to 9 p.m., is actually 36 small block parties throughout the city, according to Senior Deputy Jim Aguirre.
Similar parties will be held in neighborhoods throughout the country as part of an effort to strengthen neighborhood relationships and encourage better police-community partnerships, Aguirre said.
Several county government officials and law enforcement leaders will attend the parties, including county Supervisor Kathy Long, Undersheriff Craig Husband and several members of the Camarillo City Council.
Also, some party locations will include displays by several special details from the Sheriff’s Department, including its mounted unit, SWAT, K-9, search and rescue and bomb experts.
