The Planning Commission has denied a request from a parking lot operator to rent out 14 spaces.
“It’s the wrong size, shape and location for a commercial parking lot,” said Planning Commissioner Cheryl Kinsman. “It is a very tiny lot.”
John Gallegos, owner of the adjacent Beach Street Hair Studio, leases the lot for the use of his patrons and those of of nearby businesses.
The lot at 170-180 Beach St. has been a parking lot for more than 30 years.
Gallegos said he started leasing the lot in June to “present it in a cleaner and better organized way than it was in the past. It was filthy before.”Gallegos said he will appeal the decision to the City Council.
