HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A convicted murderer who nearly cut off the hand of a chaplain visiting him on death row in June was put to death Wednesday in the 26th execution this year in Texas.
Juan Soria, 33, died of lethal injection for the 1985 murder of a Fort Worth teenager.
Soria had attacked 78-year-old volunteer prison chaplain William Westbrook with razor blades, prison officials said.
Soria pulled the chaplain’s arm through the bars into his cell and cut him severely.
