MOSCOW — The criminal case against media mogul Vladimir A. Gusinsky has been closed for lack of evidence, the Itar-Tass news agency reported today.
Gusinsky was jailed for four days in June after being arrested on charges of cheating the government of $10 million in a privatization deal. Authorities have seized documents from his company offices several times.
Gusinsky claimed the legal actions against him were a Kremlin-led attempt to crack down on independent-minded media. Gusinsky is head of the Media-Most holding, which includes media outlets that have criticized the Kremlin.
Dmitry Ostalsky, a Media-Most spokesman, said Gusinsky had flown to Spain Wednesday to be with his family.
