SEOUL — U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun will meet this week in Bangkok, Thailand, North Korean media reported Sunday.
The officials will meet Wednesday to discuss “issues related to bilateral relations,” the Korean Central News Agency said in a one-sentence dispatch.
The meeting, to take place before meetings held by the Assn. of Southeast Asian Nations, would mark the highest-level contact between the U.S. and North Korea.
The announcement was made as North Korea, desperate for outside economic aid to rebuild its dilapidated economy, is actively seeking contacts with the outside world.
