Ortiz Continues Hot Streak in Triple A

Right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz continues to give a good account of himself with triple-A Edmonton.

Ortiz (6-3) won his fourth consecutive start with the Trappers in a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma on Tuesday. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks and struck out five in seven innings. Ortiz has won five of his last six outings with Edmonton.

Former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Matt Wise (8-5) leads the Trappers in victories.

Shawn Wooten, who began the season with double-A Erie, has made a good impression since moving up to Edmonton. Wooten was batting .293 with nine home runs and 35 runs batted in when he was promoted. He batted .300 in June with Edmonton, and is batting .288 in 39 games through Saturday. Twenty-two of his 45 hits have been for extra bases.

Tuesday, pitcher Francisco Rodriguez of Class-A Lake Elsinore made his first start since he was sidelined with a strained elbow. He pitched four innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Rodriguez was 1-1 with 16 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings before the injury. He didn’t report to the team until late May because of elbow problems. Rodriguez was 1-1 with a 3.31 earned-run average last season with Butte.

Pitcher John Lackey, who was 6-6 with a 3.40 ERA with Lake Elsinore, has been promoted to double-A Erie. He was 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA with Cedar Rapids, where he started the season.
