Engineer Represents City on MWD Board

Adequate supplies and reasonable rates are the most important challenges for Southern California water officials, according to Hugo C. Mejia, recently named to the Metropolitan Water District board of directors.

Mejia, a senior engineer for Southern California Gas Co., was named to the job earlier this month by San Fernando Mayor Silvario Robledo.

He represented the city of San Fernando at his first meeting July 11, joining in a discussion of potential consumer rebate policies.

“I’m honored that the city had the confidence and trust in me to place me in such an important position,” Mejia said. “I’m taking it very seriously in terms of the role I play on some of these water issues.”

Robledo told him Mejia’s engineering background is the greatest asset he brings to the MWD, Mejia said. He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Cal State Northridge.

Mejia has been a San Fernando Planning Commissioner since 1997. He will serve on the MWD’s legal and claims, and budget and finance committees.
