* Re “Spiky Tollway Cell Phone Towers Dubbed Monstrosities,” July 14:
I’m baffled by county Supervisor Todd Spitzer and Orange Mayor Joanne Coontz’s criticisms of the five designs for the toll road antennas.
Architect Paul Zajfen has already brought world-class form and function to Orange County with his toll plaza work. I see absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t listen to his first instincts for the antenna spires.
Spitzer and Coontz now want something more inconspicuous at nearly twice the cost. As inconspicuous as what? The purple neon Edwards Googolplex that I can’t help but see from Zajfen’s toll plazas?
