Cheers for Fuentes’ Appointment to South County College Board

* Re “Fuentes Appointed to South O.C. Community College Board,” July 13:
As a former student and member of the student government on the Saddleback College campus, I applaud the appointment of Thomas A. Fuentes to the South Orange County Community College Board of Trustees.
Fuentes has long been a community-minded leader and will bring a common-sense and fiscally responsible approach to issues facing that district.
Fuentes was one of the few community leaders who supported John Moorlach against Bob Citron and his risky investment schemes.
Fuentes also stood up to bureaucrats in the fight against Measure R, the failed tax measure that proponents claimed would collapse bankrupt Orange County if it didn’t pass.
I have personally seen the South County college district under much tumult over the past several years, but I look forward to observing a new era of peaceful and sound governance under Fuentes’ leadership.

* The board was wise in appointing Lake Forest resident Fuentes to fill its vacancy in Area 6.
A Latino graduate of Santa Ana College, Fuentes will bring to the board a keen awareness of the community college experience and the needs so unique to the students of the district.
His record of conservative leadership ensures fiscal responsibility, which ought to be expected of every public official with access to public funds.
